On September 22, 2009, Carnegie Mellon University welcomed Bill Gates and Pittsburgh philanthropists Henry and Elsie Hillman to dedicate the new home of the School of Computer Science, the Gates-Hillman center. Mr. Gates gave a keynote talking about philanthropy and the advancement of technology in education. He also took questions from the crowd on issues ranging from open source software to intellectual property.

If you have seen cmuTV members around campus during orientation and are looking to join, your chance is finally here. cmuTV will be at the activities fair on Wednesday, September 2nd. We’ll be on the CFA lawn from 4:30-6:30 (rain location Wiegand Gym). Drop by and say hello! Our first official meeting will be the following day, September 3rd, in the UC McKenna room. We’ll let you know the exact time at the activities fair. If you can’t make the activities fair, send an email to cmutv@andrew.cmu.edu letting us know you’re interested.
cmuTV is comprised of students from all years and majors: engineering, creative writing, computer science, information systems, and history just to name a few! Our members come from a variety of television production backgrounds, from having no experience at all to having worked intensively with high school television stations. All levels of expertise are encouraged to join!
cmuTV News will be launching at the beginning of Fall 2009. We’re currently looking for an executive producer for cmuTV News, field producers, writers, cameramen, and journalists. You don’t have to currently be a member of cmuTV to be a part of cmuTV News – we’ll train anyone who is interested!

The Student Body President and Vice President of Finance debates were held on Monday, March 23 at 5pm in DH 2315, hosted by The Tartan and cmuTV. cmuTV is currently airing footage from the debates on channel 17.
Elections open on Sunday, March 29th at Noon and close on Tuesday, March 31th at 6 PM.

cmuTV will be filming our second episode of Pittsburgh 101 this Saturday, March 21. Come with us to Squirrel Hill as we explore all of the great restaurants, shops, and attractions that you should know about! We’ll be meeting at 11:30am on Saturday at our Margaret Morrison Plaza headquarters and then heading up to Squirrel Hill for some filming.

cmuTV is busy preparing for Buggy 2009! We’re sending camera and interview crews to practice rolls each weekend between now and race day to capture the hard work, dedication, and excitement leading up to the races. In addition, this year we’re teaming up with Andy Bordick (PiKA ‘94) and Mark Estes (SN ‘87) from the CMU Buggy Alumni Association and Alex Andrews from the CMU Variety Hour for insightful commentary and announcing of the races.

cmuTV spent February 13-14 working on the SPIRIT Fashion Show and Lunar Gala Fashion Show. Normally separated by two months, the SPIRIT Fashion Show and Lunar Gala were held on the same weekend this year to create “Fashion Weekend”.
cmuTV has just launched its new website, and will be soon offering video on demand content of your favorite cmuTV shows. In the coming weeks, cmuTV shows, promos, and other features will be made available online via an iTunes podcast, Youtube, and direct download.

The Variety Hour is an hour long show that takes place each semester in McConomy. It brings together the talents and comedy of multiple clubs and student organizations on campus into a part-live, part-video show full of acts such as: “Things That Happened” that highlights current events on campus, “Midway Exposed” featuring booth tours and student interviews, and the premiere of our newest rap video titled “CMU Gurlzzz.”

AB Project Jefferson is showing Pennsylvania election returns LIVE in Skibo Coffeehouse in the UC tonight. cmuTV is providing projectors and screens, and we’ll be here until at least 11:00 or 12:00. Come by and show your voter receipt for free Skibo food.
Senator Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, Senator Bob Casey, and Teresa Heinz spoke to a crowd of thousands of students and other fans at the University of Pittsburgh’s Petersen Events Center on the eve of the Pennsylvania primaries.

Buggy races were held starting at 8:00am the mornings of Friday, April 18th and Saturday, April 19th. cmuTV broadcast the event on channel 17 to campus and online. DVDs will be available, and may be purchased at our online store.
