Bill Gates Gives Keynote Speech
On September 22, 2009, Carnegie Mellon University welcomed Bill Gates and Pittsburgh philanthropists Henry and Elsie Hillman to dedicate the new home of the School of Computer Science, the Gates-Hillman center. Mr. Gates gave a keynote talking about philanthropy and the advancement of technology in education. He also took questions from the crowd on issues ranging from open source software to intellectual property.

Pittsburgh G-20 Summit Forum
Carnegie Mellon’s Heinz College recently hosted a panel of experts discussing the upcoming G-20 summit. Topics included discussion on what the G-20 is and what impact it will have. The speakers also discussed the global economy and what challenges it has encountered recently. Members of the panel included:
Lee Branstetter, Associate Professor of Economics at the Heinz College
Jendayi Frazer, Distinguished Service Professor at the Heinz College and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences
Marvin Goodfriend, Professor of Economics and Chairman of the Gailliot Center for Public Policy at the Tepper School of Business
Gabriel Sod Hoffs, an economic strategist at Farallon Capital Management
Robert Wilburn, Distinguished Service Professor and Director of Heinz College Washington, D.C., moderated the event.
